What a treat to see - I didn't make it so thanks for the awesome photographs. I love to see the traditional dress and facepaints.

traditional dress?
Do you honestly think that Indians dressed with those flashy outfits in the old days?
Its amazing that they forgot there old ways.

The history of the powwow isn't THAT old. So the 'flashy outfits' means the traditional dress of powwows, not what people wore for regular clothes. Its like looking at a blue collar town and seeing folks out in their sunday clothes and saying its not 'traditional'. It IS traditional, it is just ceremonially traditional, and not necessarily that old (it was only in the 1800's that people started to 'dress up' for church.

As for forgetting old ways, take a look at non native cultures. Virtually ALL the 'old ways' have vanished, and in the case of native cultures, its hardly amazing that much has been forgotten. Powwows were at one point illegal because they were called heretical. Natives were torn from their parents, many were murdered, many were forcibly sterilized, so why would that be amazing?

well said 6.21 - why do people like 11.52 just have to gripe and criticise for no reason? And especially when they are so very ignorant of the facts. Yes - this was a stunning and colourful display of First Nation culture. Great pics.

It is traditional ... just not traditional Maliseet. It's more like theft of plains indian cultural identity.
