Laurie Manzer Whether they sell it or not, it will be taxed any way. In Ontario the prices are the same but the hours, location and selection is better with private ownership.

Lynn Morrison No, But it would be nice if we would stop building new stores. In the past few years we have moved the prospect store down the block, moved the downtown one to the superstore and then to the train station. Brookside mall store was moved to the other side of the mall, and Devon was expanded. Waste of profits. NB liquor will always be profitable. It is a straight forward retail business with a solid market.

Sterling Wright Why? Did Irvings, Sobeys, or Ganongs say they wanted it?

Margaret E Perry Dupuis why would the gov't want to sell something that is bringing them in so much money! ?

Laurie Manzer The govt is now in the business of retailing a product that they already collect the taxes on. Private business can "market" liquor that the govt already "owns". Ontario has saved the taxpayers $38 million a year in recycling of beer bottles through it's private stores alone. Not to mention the increase of profits and reduction in beer prices over a 5 year period. It actually saved the govt money since the govt didn't have to pay their own people and maintain govt stores to sell an item they were collecting taxes anyway.

Pierre Prevost it the only profitable business in NB why sell it and no one cries NOT IN MY BACKYARD ABOUT IT

Laurie Manzer It's not about selling it, the govt collects taxes on the alcohol when it is brewed/distilled, they have great expenses housing NB Liquor stores, staff, electricity, heat, and maintenance selling a product that they already collected the alcohol taxes on. The govt has a monopoly on the LIQUOR, regardless of who sells it, it is still under govt control and revenue collection.

Pierre Prevost SO where do you want them to collect taxes to pay for their trips abroad on the necessity of life like food ... beter be booze than food in my book ... i would rather run out of beer than run out of food for my family ...

Laurie Manzer Yes, smoking, thanks that is a great example! Cigarettes are controlled by the government, but no one complains that the govt is allowing private stores to sell them, that is because the govt is already collecting revenue off of them!
