Sounded like a pretty reasonable guy to me. He's the principal. He can't just say, oh well, let the kids run riot, it's okay.

I did not hear the news or what went on yesterday at LHHS. But I do know this, my son had to take things into his own hands when he attended LHHS. Bulleying is alive and well at LHHS with more that questionable support from the administration. I have noted they can handle other things than bulleying well, however, the bulleying issue they definitely struggle with.

Charles, I have just listened to the KHJ segment, and Kevin Pottle does make some very valid points and it is his job to maintain a sense of decorm and control at LHHS. Bulleying is a big issue with many facets, but the fact remains when students report being bullied they feel ignored or not believed, most of the time.
I have another son attending LHHS and he is well supported, included, and enjoys going to school. LHHS for him is positive.
But bulleying needs to be addressed at all schools, as it is out of control, and administrators do struggle with it. I tend to believe in a more punitive approach, however, sending the bulley home to what is probably the origin of the behavior is no answer either. Parents need to step up and deal with their child's behavior...period.
Pardon the rant, it is just my opinion.

It seems that Kevin Pottle was standing up for the students.

I heard him call out the government to not give the schools a bigger hammer to deal with bullies, but to provide more guidance counselors and social workers.

When the next budget comes down these two cogs of the government wheel will be sliced and diced so the government, in its typical lunacy, will ignore the facts because their mind is made up.

With each passing government they get a little bit worse. These CONS promised the world to get elected and then said they would deliver and not use the excuse of how they did not know things were as bad as they were.

They did exactly that, proving themselves to be liars.

In closing it is easy to make tougher rules on bullying than to provide resources to actually deal with it.

What do you think those pack of morons at the legislature will choose?

JERK......Major Jerk..

Old Kevin has his moments, but what he has shown to the students is that you do not challenge authority, which teaches complacency to the future generation. Having said that, I can also understand his position as the schools principle, which must have been a difficult call for him to do.
While I may be critical of the way that he dealt with the student protest, one cannot loose site of all the good work that he has done at the school over the years. Kevin, when he first started at the school inherited a school with many issues, however he resolved those issues a difficult job for anyone, but he pulled it off.
The problem that exists in the school in regards to bullying is beyond what the schools can do with the current policies and legislation.
The Schools have say when the bullying behavior is in school and is physical, but when the bullying behavior is outside of kick and punch, it is difficult to identify, and to quantify it. At this movement outside of the physical form of bullying there really is not legislative provision that gives principles the tools that they need to deal with such matters.
In contrast to thirty years ago, bulling does not stop at the 3:00 pm; it continues after school, it continues after the school has closed its doors.
Unlike old school bulling that was easy to identify New school bullying takes on many forms and is not only isolated to school but can be found prevalent on the job, and in the community and so on. It almost looks like the alpha dog system of dominance over the pack.
As a society, are we not giving mixed messages in that respect?
Currently the school is only limited to what happens on the school property and during school time. What goes on after school the school is helpless in what they can do.
Trying to draft legislation is going to be a difficult chore, because to extend the schools powers to beyond school time would be changing the role of the school from educator to enforcer.
Once it bullying has been identified as continuing after school then it should become a police and judicial matter, The schools role would be just to identify the occurrences happen in their respective schools, and then report it to the police, who will then collect the necessary evidence to bring to court.
For this to work we need additional legislation, and that becomes complicated if that legislation is be included in the criminal code, which in my opinion should be. Whether these bullies realize or not is that the trauma that they cause in their victims can be as serious, those traumas experienced, by those who have experience physical, mental or sexual abuse. So bulling should be a criminal offense, not only for students but also for adults who continue the practice long after they have left school.

These kids have the right to protest and have their voice heard but the school bullies them to keep their mouths shut by threatening to suspend them? What kind of lessons are they teaching our kids when the school themselves are doing the bullying!!!

Very nice guy and a great family man . I worked with him for years .

Unfortunately Charles won't let me say what I really think of this man Pottle.

Threatening that protestors will lose graduation priviledges? Unbelievable.

That's about as big of a jerk as you can be.

Maybe he's trying to teach the students that there are mature ways to have your voice heard.

I take it back...he is not a major jerk he's an ass...

Anyone only has to visit Andre Murray's Blog where he shares his experiences of at first unsuccessfully attempting to have the Court of Queens Bench Rule... now the Supreme Court of Canada, as Andre Murray has made application to Supreme Court of Canada to obtain Rulings that will forever stop Mortgagees from bullying Residential Tenants as the Mortgagees Foreclosure practices (only in New Brunswick) cause families to be evicted and suddenly tossed out onto the streets, only because the Mortgagees what VACANT POSSESSION that enable quick sale of their interest in the property and for that reason Mortgagees in NEW BRUNSWICK circumvent the Rentalsmen and instead obtain Court Orders to evict since the average Residential Tenant cannot afford to pay legal fees to defend their Residential Tenancy.

Also just look at all his experiences of being attacked while riding his bicycle without a helmet.

Andre Murray like many others in this city of Fredericton have been Bullied by Fredericton city Police.

Our children see the adults their parents constantly arrested by Fredericton Police Farce then released without charges.

Our children live in the Fredericton prison of abuse and we wonder why they duplicate or become frustrated by their parents taking so much shit from City Police.

What else- how else must we all feel except like a bunch of punks as our children observe us not fight back against terrorism of Fredericton Police Force !!!???

My point I hope is that we must teach and are teaching our children by our example.

Andre has put his successful artistic goals on hold to secure justice for us all.

Kindly visit Andre Blog:

http://justicedonedirtcheap.blogspot.com/

read first hand about his accounts of incidents in Fredericton, which at law apply in any Court of Law in Canada, also learn how people in our community are self educating themselves on the law, and how we can restore the dignity in our communities by economical self litigation in Courts of Queens Bench.

We can teach our children to fight,... except let the fight be dignified, for that reason public and before the Law Courts not by venting anger at school or against our neighbors.

As always, one of our greatest fighters for justice, Charles Leblanc teaches us not to bully, but to react with analytical dialogue, to hopefully stop fascism bullying.

Great example Charles Leblanc !!

AS usual stu prof feels a need to go off into left field and spiel forth his political beliefe, not discussing the actual topic at hand, but what is his current pet peeve.

Thanks for the input stu prof, or in this case NOT1

Does your employer know that your spewing is turning potential studends away?

Your bullying of your views certainly doesn't help attract students.

Now, now. now, I counted the word bully four times in what the Stu.Prof said at 2:52 PM,.

My opinion regarding your accusation of Stu.Prof and I quote: "not discussing the actual topic at hand,"
of course he is discussing the topic however in a rhetorical style.

This must be or may be the way to simulate thought instead of having the student memorize redundant crap.

What say you Anonymous 7:14 ?

Any school principle who says it is not his responsibility to deal with bullying is a liar. Kevin Pottle is a dictator - used to be at Alberts St School - and has the power to deal with bullies. He can order detention, suspension and anything required to resolve the issue. I believe the bullies are probable favoured children from families with influence - that is how this "city' works. Pottle - you are a bully allowing bullying in your school. you are a disgrace.

1.36 pm - has to be Kevin Pottle posting!

sally said...

7.14 - you need to connect the dots. What is happening in our schools to oppress and undermine children is just the preparation for real life. STU Prof is spelling that out - we must not let our children believe that they have no voice, they can be bullied because that does not have to be the way. New Brunswick has to change - the Government has to change, Pottle should protect the children in his care and teach them ethical and moral and spiritual values - that is his duty and that is where he is failing. He is pretending we need more legislation - no. Teachers and schools are there to teach and guide BY LAW. If parents abused their children the school would be the first to bring in social services. Well, BRING THEM IN NOW POTTLE -YOUR CHILDREN ARE BEING ABUSED. The earlier post is right -you are an ass and a coward as well.

what better way to have a voice be heard than protesting? as every teenager will tell you, and I'm sure you remember yourself, as do I...people don't listen unless you MAKE them

@4:01
... because a lot of the times the message gets lost in the protest. For example the "Occupy" protests, or Charles' bullhorn nonsence in front of the police station.
