I'm just glad to see you are up and running from your home today. Being deprived of your civil liberties is tuff to deal with, but I think you did a fine job of reorganizing. You have some good friends... You also have some tuff critics... Don't let them get to you...

Charles was not deprived of any civil liberties. The victims of his libel have been, though, for months now.

@2:14. The "victims of his libel" Oh yeah, because due to Charles's words, Mr Police Man couldn't perform his duties, and lost sleep over it. I'm sure.
It all boiled down to, "Mommy, he said some mean things about me."
If the "victim" in question can prove that anything Charles said has had a detrimental effect on his life, work, etc, then fine. But if the police stand by their notion that Charles is just a "crackpot who spouts his opinions" (in a manner of speaking.) Then they have nothing.
If that were the case, I could be sued for slander when I say that driver who almost hit me is a complete moron.
298. (1) A defamatory libel is matter published, without lawful justification or excuse, that is likely to injure the reputation of any person by exposing him to hatred, contempt or ridicule, or that is designed to insult the person of or concerning whom it is published.
It doesn't seem that there has to be any proof of damage, but proof that damage was 'likely' to result from the libel.
That's just how I read it, though.
