Don't the modems technically belong to Rogers?
Can't you give rogers a call and see if they can work around that. Possibly drop internet service, but still pay the $5 monthly router rental until you can get it back (IF you can get it back). Or just tell them it was stolen, since technically, that's what happened. I mean why take the router? It is not part of the computer, does not belong to you, cannot contain anything that would help or harm the "case."
Maybe they should have taken your chair too, since you sit when you blog.
They can't deny you your modem!!! That's ridiculous! Tell them to pay for the monthly usage then too if they won't give it back! haha!

I've commented before and on several of your CBC stories. In all honesty, I think you're a crackpot.
However, I also think you're being railroaded. I'm not sure what I can do to support you, but know that I do support you in what I see as intimidation and an absolute abuse of power on the part of the police.
I expect to write a letter to several politicians on your behalf. Perhaps we can put political pressure on the police to smarten up and stop harassing you.

While they have grounds to take your computer and hard drive they have no reason to take the monitor nor modem.
A good lawyer should be able to get that back to you in 5 minutes Charles.
Go to Rogers; tell them the police took their modem.
I don't support you on the way you handle things but the police were out of line taking the modem/screen as the only thing they need for their case is your hard drive. Their was no reason to take the modem other than to try to shut you and your blog down. Obvious intimidation on their part.

Usually they just copy the content of your hard drives and leave the computers and everything else there.
But everything on your hard drives are in there hands now. Any private stuff that was on your hard drive is now public. You should talk to a lawyer about the search warrent and see if they have the rights to view the content of the hard drives.
Hopefully there wont be anything on the hard drives that can get you into more trouble.

I think that was there intentions, to hopefully find something illegal on your hard drives and charge you with it. If the problem was something that was on your blog all they had to do was copy the screen from the police station.
They now have access to all your usernames and passwords that was on your hard drive. credit card and banking accounts (if you have any) They can log in to all your e-mails too.
I suggest that you change all your passwords on all sites, e-mail address, blog, banking, msn to stop them from accessing anything that is private.
People don't relies that anything that was deleted from your hard drives can be retrieved too.
If the cops are as bad as you claim then who is to say that they wont put some illegal stuff or illegal web sites on your hard drives and jail you because of it?

They need the modem for the IP addres link to prove that your home computer was connected to the internet and you used it for the alleged crime.
