Homeless Has A Name!!!

I was told a few weeks ago that this guy would be coming to Fredericton while going across Canada.

I never heard of him so therfore I became a little suspicious when I was told that he would be staying at the Delta during his stay in the Capital.

I guess he used to be a Millionaire and lives in California.

They told me Mark Horvath would be at the Kitchen at 11:30am!

Sure enough!!! He was there!

Anonymous,

So you feel that anyone working with marginalized people should have to be homeless themselves?

What's your suggestion then...should I stay in a tent, a car, a shelter or on the street? How much impact

I make zero money doing this and you have issues with me staying in a donated hotel room? Not all my rooms are donated, some I have to raise money to pay for - but that's not OK?

What happened in Fredericton is a conversation was started during a time when media does not even notice homelessness. Homelessness is only sexy when it's Thanksgiving. InvisiblePeople.tv's visit helped the community gain momentum at the local lever to effect real, positive change. That is a very good thing.

It's OK that people sleep in a hotel, even those who are helping homeless people. Working with hurting people is hard, emotional labor. Charles's even said himself after hanging me for an hour "I could not do what you do and you need a hotel"

Let's say you had to have surgery, would you want your surgeon to have a good nights sleep before your operation? how about a pilot flying a plain, bus driver, or even the cook making your food?

Why is it you feel because I work with homeless people I should not get a good nights sleep?

The ideal that a person has to suffer to help hurting people is ridiculous. We need impact to get people out of homelessness. People fighting bureaucracy need to be on the top of their game.

Let me ask you this - how many people did you help get out of homelessness today? Yesterday? This week? This month? This year? InvisiblePeople.tv has had more impact than all the multi-million dollar campaigns combined at a fraction of the cost. Real impact meaning people in housing. Look at that why don't you

Sorry Mark!!!

I got distracted and I didn't answer the Jerkface coward view.

But I did say the same thing and asked you in person.

You're 100% right!!!

After following you for two hours and watching you go over your gadget < Blackberry, stop and listen to people, run here and there, face the media and the most difficult part was TO BE FOLLOWED BY A PAIN IN THE ASS BLOGGER!!!

:p

Nope!!! You deserve to sleep in a nice bed!!!

:)

Great coverage Charles and most of Marl, continue the good work, we are fortunate to have you bringing these issues to light in Fredericton. Hopefully you will have time to do the same in the rest of the province.

Roger Dodger said...

No offense Mark, but your work is in no way comparable to that of a surgeon or airline pilot.

Mark, don't bother arguing with the moron crowd in Freddy Beach.

They only think they do good by chasing the homeless off of city streets, instead of helping them out.

You will find that this cesspool is the most hypocritical place on Earth.

They do not get that I exist because there is an overabundance of people in the city pretending to be something that they are not.

Interesting theory Mad Ape. Too bad there's no basis :-(

Anonymous said...

no basis?

rrrrriiiiigggghhhhttt

Chase them away from the downtown
Chase them away from the river bank
Chase them away from the market
Chase, chase, chase

Idiot

@11:18,

Proof please.

Mark Horvath said...

Rodger Dodger,

I am not comparing my work to surgeon or pilot, I am simply trying to illiterate a point that everyone from janitors to rocket scientists deserves a good night sleep to do their required tasks.

I mean, if every person working in social services that deals with homeless people had to live homeless themselves, or when they traveled were not allowed to sleep in a hotel room, there would be no impact in ending homelessness.

The thought that since I work with homeless people I should not sleep in a bed in a hotel is insane. Plus, the hotel room was donated and people complained. even more insane.

I like this...Mark you have guts! You shake rattle and roar..love your rebuttals here in this blog! Your comment about "Homelessness is only sexy when its Thanksgiving" hits hard, you are right on, and that is a sobering thought. Fredericton is not a cesspool of uncaring people as mentioned by another commentor. For all "the snobs" that Charles refers to, there are many many more who help in many ways to help out their fellow human being. Hats off to them, you, Mark , and Charles for bringing this information to us on this blog. Great work gang!! Lets see the positive here, we know we need less negativity in our world for sure. Keep at it Mark! It's amazing to see what an impact your road trip has made. Don't let them get you down, you know what you're doing is right, and deep down so do they they're just too ashamed to admit it. We love you and all that you do!
