The Oil Cartel loves Qaddafi.
In period of austerity, this price increase does not make sense except to keep the rich, rich. The solution is Simple here in Canada, We produce enough oil to be able to sell fuel considerably lower to Canadians.
Fuel prices is one of the major contributors to inflation because the additional cost is passed on every item we purchase, any services etc to the consumer.
Of course that is a pipe dream to see the Federal Government force upon the Canadian Oil producers price reduction.
The reasons why this won't happen is one, to keep the agreements with OPEC,and NAFTA, And the other is the Tax revenue that is generated for both the Provincial and Federal government.
Hypothetically speaking, if Canada were to drop its prices so the prices at the pumps would be in the range of 56 cents per liter. That would make Canada a very attractive place to bring in Tourist Dollars.
From the Manufacturing perspective it would allow our products to be sold cheaper,, but that is just hypothetically speaking.
This is just another way to keep the rich to get richer and the working person to get poorer in terms of loosing buying power.
It's times like that that make me not want to bother getting a car. Then it's times like Sundays and Saturdays that make me realize you need one in Fredericton, due to the horrible transit system here.
