Trained by the Toronto Police. Sorry to burst your ongoing vendetta. Hate to break it to you but most of the police we have in New Brunswick are good people fighting crime despite your blind hatred for them all.

Anon 5:23 look at the G20 in Toronto,in which the broke about every law on the books!! Fighting what crime? what a laugh! 75-85% percent of the so called crimes are civil in nature but the RCMP would break a persons arms to enforce this crap and that goes to the rest of police!
Thier Thugs of the Government Plain and simple, they are no longer Peace Officers!
They take an Oath to Government not to the People or the Constitution, you fail! Go blow that crap elswhere people see them for what they really are many just dont know what to do about it!

So let's get this straight. The tinfoil hat brigade here wants no police and figures everyone will join hands and sing Kum Ba Ya?

@9:35 . Yes the Tinfoil Hat Brigade loves Kum Ba Ya and wants good Police that protects People not Corporate Law!

Less Money in Government Hands and more to the Private sector(small business).

I bet you just Love giving 80% of all your Money to the Feds and Province! Keep Worshiping Man and theres more of that in store for You!

That's one hell of a tax bracket you're in.

Well, both sides have a point. Police don't really 'fight' crime, they mainly enforce laws. For serious crimes they are almost useless since they can't show up until later.

But Charles point has always been the organizational structure of the NB RCMP. Of course most cops ARE good people, but most people are good people.

The problem in police work is the same as in the military, the rigid hierarchical structure. The happy medium would of course be police whose regulations are dictated by the public in some way. Even in Egypt during this time the people are organized into neighbourhood watches, which can be far more effective than police.

In Hamilton there was a group of little old ladies who used to drive around by the university and literally scold people into obeying noise regulations.

I remember here when the power went out all over the city, and ironically the ONLY intersection which was chaos was one where a police officer was trying to regulate it.

That doesn't mean police themselves are any different than anybody else, it just means that they operate under different guidelines, and Charles has some legitimate complaints about them. Manitoba, and Ontario to the lesser extent, are the only provinces I know of which have citizen oversight committee's to hold police accountable. When you have such a system, the benefit is that people's sometimes legitimate opinion of police is higher.
