Fredericton Police endorses Safe for Pets Too...in Transition with You!!

The Fredericton Police Force is very pleased to partner with other professional agencies in the development and launch of a new provincial program entitled “Safe for Pets Too...in transition with you” (SFPT). This new province wide service provides temporary shelter and veterinary care for pets of women who are leaving an abusive relationship. “As police officers we know all too well the reality and complexity of addressing Intimate Partner Violence. This program will not only help women and animals break out of the cycle of violence, but it will also serve to raise public awareness.”

Recent research has shown that in a large percentage of domestic violence cases, women reported that their partner had threatened to harm their pets and in some cases pets had been harmed or killed.

The launch will take place at the Crowne Plaza in Fredericton at 12:00 noon on Wednesday February 9th, 2011

Wow, some real creeps posting on this. Personally, I'd help pay for it. I just looked at personal expenses for Minister in the Legislature who have over $1500 in the last three months, despite having a salary of over 80 grand.

This is fantastic, hope they set up a website and a charity because I'd definitely donate to it. For the creeps-I pity your pets (if you have them). Note to CBC, if they set up a website, do a story on it.

By the way, I don't think I've EVER seen somebody who abused an animal even go to jail. That psycho in Minto who killed his dogs with a hammer got acquitted and I don't think I've ever seen somebody do jail time. So its certainly not the case that those cruel to animals are punished harsher than those cruel to people.

So also, the old man from minto was innocent when he was harrassed by the spca, the immigrant lady from Kilburn was innocent! Phillip from Hawkins corner was found innocent, and now the spca has jumped on two old 70 year old women for animal abuse when all they tried to do was help ferile horses! Anymore names for those a little more knowledgable and not so narrow minded mikel? lol
