img_7200

This was before I came to this City.

Someone told me today there used to be a John F. Kennedy Memorial at Officer's Square but it disappeared in the mid 1980s.

Does anyone out there have a picture of it?

I would love to see it!!!

God knows who reads this blog so maybe someone can tell this blog what happened to the Memorial???

If you have a picture? Please email it to me at

oldmaison@yahoo.com

Merci!!!

So? Does anyone out there know the story about the missing JFK Memorial???

Please tell!!!

The information that this plaque existed is pretty sparse.

Lee Harvey Oswald couldn't have taken it so it must have been the man on the grassy knoll.

Alumni Memorial Building on Campus. Just inside the front door.

I recall in the 1980's when certain historically "non-conforming" structures in Fredericton's Military Compound district were demolished (Bank of Montreal building) or removed (John F. Kennedy memorial pavilion in Officers' Square).

The John F. Kennedy memorial consisted of a white stone pavilion which housed a bronze portrait - commissioned by Tom Forrestall - see reference below:-

1964 - Bronze portrait of John F. Kennedy for the Memorial to him in Fredericton, N.B. (The plaster cast is housed at the Kennedy Library in Waltham, Mass.)

I seem to remember a UNB connection pertaining to the re-location of the JFK memorial, and probably, as suggested, the bronze plaque is located in the Alumni Memorial Building on UNB Campus. Not sure what became of the stone pavilion though - perhaps it is also somewhere on the UNB campus.
