Last weekend after leaving the Fredericton Walking Bridge in the north side. I noticed this sight.





It's been there for the last couple of weeks. Is that bench going to stay there till next spring???

A nurse who works at the D.E.C.H has suffered partial paralysis as a result of the H1N1 Vaccine???

I contacted Charles about an anonymous tip I received yesterday. I have put out a couple of feelers to confirm it and Charles suggested I comment on his blog to see if mainstream media can check with their sources as well.

So here goes: Late yesterday afternoon I received an anonymous tip that a nurse who works at the D.E.C.H has suffered partial paralysis as a result of the H1N1 Vaccine. I reported it on my site as an unconfirmed report, which it is...for now.

I am hoping my sources get back to me by Monday but so far no luck.

KHJ Journalist Randy McKeen supports the selling of NB Power to Hydro Quebec!!!

Personally, I don’t think the Graham government is doing itself any favour by investing taxpayers’ money on a campaign to convince New Brunswickers it’s doing the right thing by selling a large chunk of N-B Power to Hydro-Quebec. Whether it’s a million dollars – as claimed by Opposition leader David Alward – or some lesser amount, really doesn’t matter. The province has already acknowledged it’s hired several P-R firms to try and convince us of the deal’s merits.



As far as I’m concerned, that’s no more an appropriate use of public money than what the federal Conservatives are doing in promoting their economic action plan. Save the public education dough for things like the H-I-N-1 virus.



The government has let us know how we can look at the agreement itself. It has also addressed some of the many concerns that have been raised and can continue to do so through its website and the media.



The debate has already begun and there has been valid points made on both sides, but there has also been a lot of rhetorical nonsense that serves to only muddy the waters. For instance, there are some who are opposed to the deal simply because the other partner is Quebec . Others claim the Liberals have no right to sell a crown corporation. That, of course, is nonsense. There are plenty of examples in Canadian and New Brunswick history where that has been done.



In the end, what really matter is whether this is a good deal for this province and its people. That’s why I’m so disappointed in David Alward’s decision to reject it outright. He has turned this into an us against them political battle similar to W’s infamous declaration that you’re either with us or against us.



It’s funny how so many people who have – for so long - cursed the ineptitude and inefficiencies of N-B Power are so suddenly bemoaning the possibility we may lose control over our very own electrical utility. But emotion has no place in this debate, nor does politics and that works both ways. Is this – or is it not – a good business deal?

KHJ Journalist Randy McKeen believe Premier Shawn Graham could win a election if the issue was about the Hydro Quebec and NB Power deal!!!

So much for a spirit of careful analysis and bipartisanship. That’s what Premier Graham was asking of Opposition leader David Alward when it comes to dealing with the massive power agreement Graham signed with Quebec yesterday.



I certainly intend to gather as much information as possible and hear from as many experts as possible before this deal is finalized next March. On the surface, I figure anything that would wipe out a debt of close to five-billion dollars, while guaranteeing stable power rates for residential users and cuts that will make businesses in the province is a good thing. But I’m sure folks in Newfoundland and Labrador were confident they had a good deal when it embarked on a partnership with Hydro Quebec at Churchill Falls . Therefore, I acknowledge the possibility all may not be perfect with the deal announced yesterday. Given the magnitude of this undertaking, I think it would behoove all of us to take that approach.



Alward and the Conservatives, however, have chosen not to. The opposition leader didn’t mince words yesterday, calling the deal outrageous and saying the Graham government didn’t have the mandate or authority to negotiate it. But in his blustery response, Alward has painted himself into a corner from which he cannot escape. Instead of saying he would reserve judgment until he talked to New Brunswickers and industry experts, he has presented his party as totally opposed to this deal. And he even challenged the premier to call an election on the issue.



Alward might want to be careful what he wishes for. I know this is hot political potato, but right now, the governing Liberals are selling the deal on a pretty popular concept – keeping rates down and drastically improving the province’s bottom line. Alward might be hard pressed to show New Brunswickers they should be opposed to that, especially since the public gas and utilities board will continue to have final say over rates and Hydro Quebec has agreed not to cut jobs.



To be honest, I see this as one of the few issues the Graham Liberals would likely feel quite comfortable fighting an election over. It should be an interesting five months.
