No weeding...no moving of the lawn...What a disgrace to the many tourists who visits the Legislature.

It's issues like this one that I used to blog when I was around and inside the Legislature.

In January my wife Faith was injured attempting to cross Regent Street at McLeod ave heading for Sobeys. If you read the following and look at the pictures it paints a different story than what the city representatives are offering as a possible outcome. Further to that...
Last night just prior to 5 pm I attended the Sobeys parking lot on Regent Street. Purpose was to take photographs of the poor city planning in designing this intersection on Regent and McLeod Ave. Prior to my exiting my vehicle which I parked in the Sobeys lot, it is very obvious driving in that the City of Fredericton in designing this intersection had water run off back to an intersection and a cross walk area which forces pedestrians into a potential hazardous location in mind. There is no side walk crossing from McLeod Ave to the Sobeys store into the parking lot. One has to cross the second cross walk heading North on Regent Street and enter the lot from there as the map and photos attached indicate. There is no alternative but to force pedestrians onto ice in the winter time.


While standing on the Sobeys side of the intersection after pushing the walk light to cross 5 lanes of traffic, I got the light. Immediately as I stepped out into the intersection I was almost hit by a dark coloured van exiting turning right from Sobeys onto Regent Street…

I walked across to the East side of the intersection and took the first picture attached. It shows the grade being slopped directly towards the storm drain which is right on top of the cross walk.




When I got the walk light to return, I video taped the crossing. I didn’t make it to the 5 lane of traffic before the light changed to a red flashing hand. And I do 13 KM ruck marches with full pack on in less than 2 hours. I would hate to see a senior citizen or a parent with 3 young children attempt to cross safely.

The second picture is self explanatory – however I have highlighted the obvious for less than reasonable viewers.






The third picture attached shows the placement of a city of Fredericton storm drain, which in winter is like every other storm drain in Fredericton – Frozen over and back flooded around the area with more ice. Thus a man made hazard.

The fourth picture is taken from the median showing the ice/snow/rain/slush run off direction.






This ice backtracks around into the City of Fredericton designed – approved and mandated pedestrian crossing location. Safer crossing areas exist at Regent and Dundonald however the city has not constructed a cross walk into Sobeys to avoid potential injury to citizens during winter months.

Rather the city forces pedestrians to cross on top of a storm drain and ice hazards which they have created with poor planning of this intersection.

Without taking a surveyor to the site and measuring the grade/direction of sloping to the pavement – where it turns water (not overlooking the obvious storm drain location) or placing a cover over the drain and filling teh intersetion with water thereby forcing the water into a natural course around the corner into the Regent Street cross walk area, we will have to rely upon photographs depicting the errors of the city in planning and creating a winter hazard for pedestrians regardless of where they are travelling at this location.

The response to claim so far from Lawrence and Assoc. specifically Bev Mackay in checking yesterday was that he is 99% sure they will deny my claim stating "knowing that there was a hazard ahead I proceeded anyway" When a reasonable person is forced with seeing ice covering the ground in front of them and to the left and right of them - knowing the light had changed and traffic was coming - is it unreasonable to state that you would attempt to reach a safer location crossing the ice vs getting struck in the cross walk marked by the citty as the safest location to cross in front of cars?

The resonable person standard...
“A person has acted negligently if she has departed from the conduct expected of a reasonably prudent person acting under similar circumstances. The hypothetical reasonable person provides an objective by which the conduct of others is judged. In law, the reasonable person is not an average person or a typical person but a composite of the community's judgment as to how the typical community member should behave in situations that might pose a threat of harm to the public. Even though the majority of people in the community may behave in a certain way, that does not establish the standard of conduct of the reasonable person. For example, a majority of people in a community may jay-walk, but jaywalking might still fall below the community's standards of safe conduct.”

This is not Afghanistan where we soldiers are expected to patrol knowingly through mined properties and ambush sites. I would expect hazards and myself or my troops to run through them there to protect their lives. But here?!

This is the City of Fredericton. The same city which has created a winter hazard zone to pedestrians on Regent Street - knowingly! This zone funnels seniors, young children and everyone else from not 1 location - but from 2 locations into an ice patch created by an elevated center of a 5 lane road, a downhill run on Regent street heading North and a very steep uphill slope exiting the Sobeys parking lot on Regent. And what exists less than 2 feet away from the cross walk but a storm drain to collect summer water and back up winter melt/refreeze placing it directly in the area designated safe for crossing of pedestrians.

Definition of crosswalk.

“A pedestrian crossing or crosswalk is a designated point on a road at which some means are employed to assist pedestrians wishing to cross. They are designed to keep pedestrians together where they can be seen by motorists, and where they can cross most safely with the flow of vehicular traffic.

“Areas that are designed to allow pedestrians to move efficiently and safely from one location to another” … http://www.dot.state.fl.us/safety/ped_bike/handbooks_and_research/ped06_11.pdf

Notice the underlying common theme – Safety….. And somehow the city’s poor planning is now a pedestrians responsibility to determine if she can reroute travel due to poor maintenance in a marked area safe for passage? I think not!

Charles you may see a lot of yellow HAZARD City not responsible for injury signs all over the city in the coming weeks – on curbs, crosswalks, in the parks, etc. Will be great for tourism and maybe it will make National and international news… Who knows someone (not you) may be made famous.

and you should position yourself in a safe area about 1/2 the way up Regent Street in a snow storm first of next winter and watch the fun... Why in the name of God would they put a traffic light system at the top of the steepist hill in Fredericton. Snow plows typically don't plow that street until 3 hours after a snow fall and thats during rush our supper traffic is already on the hill STUCK. Stopping 50 to 75 cars on a steep hill and having no one move may be a smart decision fro someone living in Florida or Texas but not in traffic fun and pedestrian safe Fredericton

During the past week, all we heard about was Michael Jackson...Michael Jackson and MORE MICHAEL JACKSON...

Media can't get enough of Michael...

Well....Between running and there...I watched the funeral on television....

It was all on the major television stations....

It was very emotional....the little daughter just took the stage and began crying the words - I love you Daddy while the family surrounded her for support....

So sad....

Either you love the guy or hated his guts....you just had to show some emotion during his funeral.

My prayers to the Jackson family.....

Do Fredericton need another bridge???

HERE'S HOW MINISTER KELLY LAMROCK WILL CUT HUNDREDS FROM THE SYSTEM!!!

I better blog my views on the new way the Minister of Social Development Kelly Lamrock is going to cut hundreds of people from the system.

Two years ago, I received a letter telling me a student want to review my case.

A student?

I told my case worker - I have no problem with that at all but just one off the mark question about me being on Social Assistance?

I'm flipping!!!!

I know why I'm on Social Assistance and I don't need a student to preach to me.

Well, I showed up there and my case worker was there.

She told the student - This is Mr.LeBlanc!!!! < I believe she told the student before I arrived that I would not take any BS from the students >...lol

I signed the papers and I was out of there in minutes!

All this was done in the old Social Assistance Building in the South Side.





Now? We come to the letter I received a couple of weeks ago.

I was told to report to a student on July 6th at 9:00am in their office. < which was this morning >

There was a phone number so I called.

I got a voice mail.

I told the girl my name and where I lived. I told her that she could set up a time and come to see me in my place. < They used to do that a few years ago >

I continued - I'm not going to go way out there in the North Side. Once I'm done? I'll have to wait for the Bus.





Sorry...I'm not going there. Not interested!!!

I left my email address to contact me.

Guess what? I never received an email. Maybe they cut me off this morning who knows?

But? This is not about me me me!!!

There are still many people in the system who don't know where the new building is located.

I might add if you're in a wheelchair?

There's no sidewalk.

It's crazy!!!

Why didn't these students set up in a room in the Social Development office in the South Side?

It doesn't make any sense.

I predict that Kelly Lamrock will cut many people off Social Assistance during the next few months because people couldn't make it at the meeting.

Kelly Lamrock had an awful difficult time spreading his message to the teachers so I can just imagine how the less fortunate people could understand him?

Well? This is one Blogger who truly understand his plan.

The reason Fredericton Silverwood Liberal MLA Rick Miles should resign???

I wish to make myself very clear on one issue.

I supported Rick Miles during his nomination for the Liberal riding of Fredericton-Silverwood!!




Rick won and went on to become the new Liberal MLA.

Now? I didn't know but the Executives or workers in this riding are Fascist.

My support of the Liberal riding all change one year and a half ago.

I was invited to the annual Christmas Party and once at the door I was surrounded by three huge bouncers.

I will admit that I received an apology from Rick Miles that same evening but I was very concern that some people in that riding would wish to harm another good standing member of the Party because he has a different views on certain issues?

Very scary stuff and this is where the word - FASCISM began in my blog!!!!

Months later, I received an apology from the Liberal Party.





One year after the confrontation I finally received an apology from the riding. If you wish to call this an apology!!





I should have received this apology months ago!!! This tells me they didn't wish to apologize.

NOW!!!! WE COME TO WHY RICK MILES SHOULD RESIGN HIS SEAT!!!!

I will admit that I was very surprise of the amount of support from the public when I was arrested.




Many people on the streets told me this wasn't right and many sent their anger via email to some MLA'S.

One of those concern citizens was Dan F!!!



A reader would often read his comments in this Blog.

After my arrest DAN F sent me this exchange of emails between himself and Liberal MLA Rick Miles.

I received this email in April but I waited till I found out what was the details of the charges? < I still don't know >
