"lifesitenews.com" is not "International news"! It's the propaganda wing of the anti-choice fascists.
Yeah, that's pretty funny, but we know that this issue is not only close to Charle's heart, but that it is the one issue guaranteed to get posters-Charles is part Barnum and Bailey and likes to drag them on.
Unfortunately, like most issues, this one is virtually NEVER in the press, which means lots of people have many mistaken opinions on it. However, in New Brunswick it is more of a consistent theme than in most provinces. In Ontario they had to bring in protestors to 'tour' the cities, and yes, that graphic picture was there and was legal. Some parents objected because it gave their kids nightmares, but since the protest was short the issue has gone away.
There was a short lived attempt by a national protest group to put anti abortion ads on municipal buses, that appeared for about a week and then disappeared.
It's interesting that in British Columbia there is a provincial law providing a 'bubble zone' around clinics, and this was deemed constitutional by the Supreme Court. In New Brunswick, it was intersting to see 17 MLA's show up at a protest, including the health minister and the leader of the opposition. David Alward says this issue reaches 'across parties'.
This shows just how disenfranchised New Brunswick voters really are, as polls consistently show in the 80% range for the free choice of women. That a provincial government can ignore federal law and that members of both parties support a minority view-and actually have shown up at protests, says a lot. No MLA, to my memory, has ever stood up with poverty activists at a protest.
That makes it virtually impossible to see a provincial law like BC's. I sometimes worry that there could be violence against a doctor at the clinic, I hope that's not a realistic fear.
Yet 9:57 wouldn't mind if the link was to the propaganda wing of the pro-abortion moonbats.
The facts: Which have nothing in common with mikel!
Opinion polls
Main article: Societal attitudes towards abortion
In a Léger poll taken September 2001, 46.6% of respondents say they are personally "for" abortion, while 37.6% say they are personally "against" abortion. In the same poll, 54.5% of respondents agreed with the idea that "only women should have the right to decide to have an abortion," while 38.5% disagreed.
A Gallup poll in December 2001 asked respondents: "Do you think abortions should be legal under any circumstances, legal only under certain circumstances or illegal in all circumstances and in what circumstances?" The results showed that 32% of Canadians believed abortion should be legal in all circumstances (down from 37% in 2000), 52% believed abortion should only be legal in certain circumstances and 14% thought abortions should be illegal in all circumstances, (up 9% from 2000).
In a Léger poll taken January 2002, 47% of respondents said abortion was "not immoral," while 41.8% said it was.
In a poll conducted by the National Post in November 2002, 78% of respondents answered "yes" to the question: "Should women have complete freedom on their decision to have an abortion?".
A poll in October 2003 conducted by Leger asked about prenatal legal protection, and several abortion-related topics, 63% said they favoured legal protection for human life before birth and 69% favour informed consent legislation on abortion.
In a Gallup Canada poll taken September 2004, 54% of respondents said they personally thought abortion was "morally acceptable."
In a Gallup Canada poll taken April 2005, 52% of respondents say they would like to see Canadian abortion laws "remain the same," 20% say they would like the laws to be "less strict," while 24% say they would like the laws to be "more strict."
In an October 2005 Environics poll, commissioned by Life Canada, when asked "at what point in human development should the law protect human life?" 30% of respondents said "From conception on," 19% said "After three months of pregnancy," 11% said "After six months of pregnancy," and 33% said "From the point of birth."
In an April 2006 Leger poll, 34% of respondents said they found abortion "immoral," behind paedophilia, extramarital affairs, prostitution, alcohol abuse, sexual relations before the age of 16, pornographic films and blasphemy.[9]
Among provinces, British Columbia and Quebec have the highest percentage who are pro-choice, and the Prairies have the highest percentage who are pro-life.
In a June 2008 Angus Reid Strategies poll, almost half of respondents (46%) believe abortion should be permitted in all cases. Roughly one-in-five Canadians (19%) would subject abortion to greater restrictions than now, 22 per cent would allow the procedure only in cases such as rape, incest and to save the woman's life, and seven per cent would only permit abortion to save the woman's life.
In addition, half of Canadians (49%) believe abortion should be legal under any circumstances. Conversely, 42 per cent of respondents want the procedure to be legal only under certain circumstances, while five per cent would outlaw abortion altogether. Younger, wealthier, and university-educated respondents are more likely to uphold the legality of abortion.[10]
extramarital affairs, prostitution, alcohol abuse, pornographic films and blasphemy.
Sounds like what I call a Tuesday night. Especially the blasphemy. God damn I love blasphemy.
Dude, you could save a lot of time if you just READ what I say. I said 'support free choice'. I didn't say 'abortion' because polling data is all over the place depending on who does the poll, who is polled, what questions are asked, etc.
The first poll is pretty old, and doesn't apply, because few people are 'for' abortion. While I recognize it happens, and support a womans choice, I am not 'for' abortion, I don't think its a GOOD thing that should be expanded for everybody. That's bad questioning and to bring back the meat issue, if I did a poll saying "do you think lambs should be slaughtered unnecessarily"-then we'd probably see pretty high numbers, but not useful numbers.
The Leger poll is no good, again, arguing whether a woman has free choice has nothing to do with 'morality'. I may think that promiscuous sex is 'immoral' (I don't), but that doesn't mean I support legislation which limits people's sexual activity.
The National Post question is closer to reality, and where almost 80% said they support a woman's free choice. The gallup poll of 2005 again shows that same number, with only 24% wanting abortions 'more strict'.
The big standout is when Life Canada got involved and changed the wording from addressing the woman, to addressing the fetus. That's where things get tricky and people's responses go all over the place-even Right to Life groups make that claim. People are NOT addressing the womans freedom when they are answering questions about the fetus. While 'we' may make the 'common sense' deduction that one view proceeds from the other, polling data is FILLED with such inconsistencies.
So apart from the Angus Reid survey the above simply makes my point for me. The Angus Reid post is misleading as it attempts to take focus off both the woman and the fetus by simply asking whether it should be 'always legal' or only in some cases.
That's an important poll for two reasons, first, while we don't know much about the specifics of polls, it IS true that polls are showing more support for the fetus than previously-and like I've said elsewhere, that's actually a real hallmark of civilization. If a woman weren't involved, then it would be absolutely fantastic. Imagine a group of people being so committed to the life of a two celled organism!
Second, we can note that in the Angus Reid poll we see that the more education a person has, the more likely they are to support free choice. Younger people also are more likely to support free choice. Quebec was once the catholic bastion of canada, now it has the most liberal ideas on the subject.
"Quebec was once the catholic bastion of canada, now it has the most liberal ideas on the subject."
Again,do you enjoy welding certain ideas to catholics? The slipping in hate syndrome.
I associate liberal ideas with extramarital affairs, prostitution, alcohol abuse, pornographic films and blasphemy.
And naming quebec, I guess you do too. SO?
No reference to the 80% lie again I see. You continue to waste intelligent peoples time!
the only things I like more than blasphemy are extramarital affairs and alcohol abuse.
Here's how hard it is to make facts:
36% of Canadians favor encouraging more alcohol abuse amonst the elders
98% of New Brunswickers would like to see a floating train, as long as it didn't affect healthcare dollars
59% of North Americans prefer 1 twenty dollar bill over 2 tens
13% of women wish they could give one free kick in the balls
47% of men agree that the previous 13% should not get their wish.
100% of humans agree that lifesitenews.com is not a recognized international news source anymore than charles is a recognized international news source.
99% of what anti-choice people say is bullshit, including signs of bloody babies that are from 30 years ago and the info from the many pamphlets that you can get from the Women's Care Centre when they trick you into going in there by pretending they offer abortion services.
0% of the protestors would ever consider adopting a child, especially if it's an 5-year old instead of a cute little baby
0% of the protestors are members of any religion other than Roman Catholic.
Kingy, what do you think an aborted baby looks like, sunshine and lollipops? .
Why aren't the anti abortion people rushing to help this group?

If those teenage mothers got abortions instead, they wouldn't need to have organizations like this.
